ARTIST RESIDENCIES

A DEDICATED SPACE FOR ARTIST-LED DEVELOPMENT

These artist-led residencies provide opportunities for creators of new work to explore, play, and experiment in a dedicated work space for one- or two-week residencies throughout the year.

Antipodes HQ - 123A Thistlethwaite St, South Melbourne

Residencies include access to space and equipment in-kind (no artist or hire fees are included as part of residencies). Antipodes work with Lead Artists to establish the best schedule for the residency based on venue and artist availability. Lead Artists will be inducted to access and close the work space on their own.

Project EOIs for August - November 2026 Residencies are due Friday June 26th 5pm AEST

Artists will be provided with feedback on their project, if desired, to assist with shaping the residency. Antipodes will only attend work sessions if invited, and no one will be present on site unless we notify you in advance. In addition to work space, we can provide access to speakers, a projector or other equipment as well as our kitchenette with filtered water, coffee/tea station, fridge and microwave. There are several cafes and restaurants in the area, and the space is easily accessible by public transport. Click here for more access info.

All residencies culminate in a discussion of material as it currently exists (up to one hour in length), which will be attended by Artistic Director Brandon Pape, New Work and Marketing Manager Cameron Steens and members of the Antipodes Committee of Management. These discussions can take on whatever format best suits the piece’s current state and can (but don’t need to) include a presentation of material or excerpts, a ‘pitch’ on the concept, a verbal outline of story events, and/or a summary of the intentions behind the project in the artist’s own words. Artists are also welcome to invite friends or peers to attend their final session.

While Antipodes cannot commit to producing or further developing all works that receive residencies, we view this as a valuable opportunity to get to know artists and make connections that may lead to other opportunities in the future.
