Melbourne-based actor and writer Don Winsor has concocted an over-the-top comedy delight that takes on class debates, rival feuds, and estate disputes in this Monty Python-meets-Downton Abbey parody of a traditional radio play.

Runtime: 2 hours and 30 minutes, with one interval

Reading presentations are followed by a brief Q&A session with the creatives.

Recommended for audiences: 12+, parental discretion is advised.

Warnings: Contains some coarse language and large amounts of bad oysters.

    WRITER

    Don Winsor is an American-born actor and writer now living in Australia. Don has been published in Vogue, Vice, and been a regular writer for Project Nerd and F5 both in print and online. His early plays Sic Semper Tyrannis and Martin and Olive have seen wildly unsuccessful productions, and deservedly so. Don has worked on stages all over the world, but recently stepped back from the theatre a bit to focus on being a father. Credits since moving to Australia include Marvin in Falsettos, Thomas Andrews in Titanic (StageArt) and principal cover for Henry Higgins in the Julie Andrews-helmed My Fair Lady (Opera Australia/GFO).     Brandon is the Artistic Director for Antipodes Theatre Company.     Bumpwell Manor marks Rob Blowers’ third appearance with Antipodes Theatre Company, having previously appeared in The Open Hand (May 2019), and Kettlehouse (May 2020). Rob is also thrilled to be appearing alongside his son Benjamin for the first time, after Benjamin’s theatrical debut in Antipodes’ reading of And She Would Stand Like This (January 2020). Rob is a core member of Antipodes Theatre Co’s Drama Club. Rob’s previous theatrical credits include Guido Contini (Cover) in Nine the Musical (StageArt, 2018), as well as a cameo appearance in playwright Don Winsor’s The Dead Martin Christmas Special (Brooklyn Runaways, 2019).

    This is Tony Llewellyn-Jones’ first Winsor/Pape production. He is greatly relieved to finally be typecast. While he has wandered through a few Stately Homes in England, and was once glued to the likes of Brideshead Revisited and Upstairs Downstairs, he has never seen an episode of Downton Abbey. He is however a fan of Antiques Roadshow. His NIDA training may or may not help him find his inner Reginald.

    Perhaps most well known for her recent critically acclaimed performance as Catherine Parr in Six (Louise Withers), Vidya Makan is an actor, singer, composer, lyricist and one of Australia’s most exciting up-and-coming talents. As a composer/lyricist, she is currently working on My Home Too, exploring the complexities of “Australian Identity.” Performance credits: Dot/Marie in Sunday In The Park With George (Watch This, Green Room nomination for Best Performance In A Leading Role), Romeo and Juliet (Australian Shakespeare Company), Green Day’s American Idiot (Shake & Stir) and the lead role Maria Krish in the feature film The Colour Of Darkness (GKMakwana Films).

    Comedian Robert Pearson was best known as part of The Four Kinsmen. They were one of the most entertaining, dynamic and sought after variety groups, winning 27 MO awards and 4 Ace awards. They were also the first Australian group to have their own show on the Las Vegas Strip in 1996. The Kinsmen brought joy to the hearts and smiles to the faces of hundreds of thousands of people from around the world, young and old, appearing regularly on The Mike Walsh Show, Burke’s Backyard, The Don Lane Show, Hey Hey It’s Saturday, Midday, Celebrity Family Feud, and Good Morning Australia.

  • Vanessa Rosewarne

    Vanessa Rosewarne is an Australian theatre performer of some thirty years experience. She has performed as a principal artist and ensemble member with State Opera of South Australia, Victorian State Opera and Opera Australia. She also has a love of music theatre, most recently appearing in My Fair Lady directed by Dame Julie Andrews for Opera Australia/Gordon Frost. She holds a B.Mus (Perf) Hons from Adelaide University. Vanessa’s latest ventures have been in promotions as a spruiker and character performer. COVID confinement has seen her undertaking legal studies and working steadily through her wine rack. Her burning passions are her Pomeranians and indulging in designer footwear she really can’t afford.

  • Ursula Searle

    Ursula Searle is not your typical triple threat performer, instead specializing in opera, comedy and musical theatre. Most recently, she performed on Adam Perryman’s LIVE: From Your Living Room, and late last year performed, directed and stage managed at the Berlin Opera Academy. Whilst in Berlin, Ursula performed in Berlin Musicals’ Songs for a New World where she received critical praise for her acting and vocal talent. Ursula has performed at multiple Melbourne festivals (MICF and Fringe), most notably in the show Pining for Affection: a Tree Musical. Ursula is excited to be back in Melbourne and is thrilled to be represented by Ian White Management.

    John Voce trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Film includes Crush, A Waste Of Shame, Penelope, Art Party, and The Infiltrator. TV includes Dr Who, Jonathan Creek, Miranda, The Great Train Robbery, Doctors, Holby City (BBC), two appearances in Downton Abbey, Grantchester, Primeval (ITV), Sons of Liberty (The History Channel), and Neighbours. Recent theatre work includes Fawlty Towers Live and Calendar Girls. John is also an accomplished comedy improviser, and is about to make his Melbourne debut with Impro Melbourne in At The Movies, here at the comedy festival. John was born near Oxford, and now resides in Melbourne.

    Francesca Waters is an internationally successful actor, having worked in Europe, United States, Australia and New Zealand. Stage credits: Bed (Winner Best Supporting Actor-Equity Guild Awards 2004), Hotel Sorrento (Nominated Best Actor-Equity Guild Awards 2005), Some Girls, Hamlet (NZ Tour), Richard III (Athenaeum), Medea (Complete Works Theatre Company) and Calendar Girls (Athenaeum). Television and Screen highlights: Preacher, 5 Bedrooms, The Leftovers, Barracuda, Newton’s Law, and the title role in Emily (MIFF 2016, St. Kilda Film Festival 2017). She plays Prue in Paper Champions currently screening at MIFF 2020. She is a proud member of MEAA and is represented by Ian White Management.
